About Our Beds
Many of the materials used in the making of The Couture Doll Bed linens are from the design trade textiles market. As favorites of the designer, many fabrics used are from F. Schumacher & Co., and original patterns by Laura Ashley. There are many others. These design trade fabrics are used in the fabrication of pillows, dust ruffles/skirts, coverlets and faux fur comforters and more.
Trims on coverlets and shams are carefully scaled to achieve punctuation of a linen while maintaining a look in proportion to the dolls that will sleep in the beds. Each trim is carefully chosen to complement and coordinate with each piece in a bed ensemble.
Faux furs are a "signature" statement for The Couture Doll Bed. Every bed has a distinct style all its own, but always has a fur pillow to punctuate its look. Furs are in faux dark mink, faux grey chinchilla and a brown faux otter. Comforters are made up in all of these faux furs and are coordinated with the appropriate color and style for each bed.
Attention to detail is of great importance…
Using patterns drawn and cut to match the dimensions of the bed frame, fabrics are laid out, pinned and cut for each ensemble piece. Each finished linen, from general precision sewing on a machine to the subtlety of handwork with a needle and thread, requires unique sewing techniques to achieve the finished look for each bed garment.
At a very early age, the designer was taught that every sewn piece must be constructed in such a way that it is as "beautiful inside as outside". Thus, linings are always found in the ensemble pieces for the linens. Linings give visual weight and a foundation to sewn pieces, enhancing their look, emphasizing their styles, and helping to maintain their shapes.
No two beds are completely alike…
Each and every bed has a distinct style all its own. From deep reds to light colored florals, each linen ensemble with its frame, is unique.
Bed linen ensembles will have a combination of the following:
- pillows coordinated with fabric style, plus one in faux fur
- a bed sheet in vintage linen or new linen
- a mattress in quilted off-white muslin matelasse
- a fitted sheet (where certain styles require)
- dust ruffle/dust skirt (lined)
- coverlet (lined) (where certain styles require)
- a faux fur comforter (lined) or throw
*If a set of linens require an additional piece to complete it, it will be there.
Each linen is tagged with the Bersano & Bersano/The Couture Doll Bed label insuring that it is an original and authentic piece. Every bed ensemble is numbered and recorded and photographed for our archives.
